The Tassenmuseum Hendrikje (Museum of Bags and Purses) is a museum located in the heart of Amsterdam. The museum has the biggest collection of the various bags and purses on the whole world.
The museum started off as a private collection of Hendrikje Ivo who collected bags and purses for 35 years then the private collection grew into a museum that opened its gates the first time in 1996. At the museum, visitors can discover every kind of woman’s handbags and purses and the museum has over 4000 pieces of bags, pouches, suitcases, purses and other accessories from the 16th century to the present day. At the museum, visitors can explore on the most unique pieces and they can follow the development and the change of fashion in the western ladies bag. The Tassenmuseum Hendrikje can be found in the central of Amsterdam and it is open every day from 10 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon. Tickets for adults cost € 9.50, tickets for children (up to age 12) are for free, for 65+ and students a ticket costs € 8, for school children a ticket costs € 6 and for groups it costs € 8.
